We recommend beginning with either the Happy Tongue or Snaffle link.
The Happy Tongue is used with horses that are very sensitive to pressure and do not do well in any other kind of mouthpiece.
The Snaffle Link is a what we suggest you start with and from there you can try other bits depending on the reaction the horse has in the snaffle link.
These mouthpieces have very different effects.
Our experience suggests that the Ultra Comfy Lock Up and the Snaffle Link are the mouthpieces to start with.
If we suspect that there is some damage in the mouth, the Moulded Mullen, as a re-training bit works very well.
If we find that the horse is unsettled in the Snaffle or tends to have a low head carriage, the McHardy Link will help to bring the head up and allow the horse to settle into the contact.
For horses that show signs of being very sensitive and do not do well with any mouthpieces, the Happy Tongue and Bomber Blue are the best choice.
If we suspect that there is some damage in the mouth, the Moulded Mullen, as a re-training bit works very well.
For the unbalanced yearling the Ported Pivot has proved to work very well as it allows for independent reins, allowing for easier correction.
