Watch LessonSnaffle Petros
Our Snaffle is a popular bit due to the curved mouthpiece which distributes pressure more evenly over tongue and bars and reduces the nutcracker action. The offset centre link avoids the usual pressure point on the tongue. The nutcracker action results in the horse lifting its head, therefore offers a solution for the horse that runs with its head down.
Bombers subtle innovations make this bit far more acceptable than the traditional counterparts.
The Petros mouthpieces rotate preventing the horse taking hold of the bit. Often good for a horse that leans or tries to take hold of the bit.
Functionality
The Snaffle Petros creates a pressure point on the tongue due to the link concentrating pressure on a small surface area, this pressure point is less sharp than a general snaffle as we have designed our snaffle with an offset link, creating a less obvious pressure point. Pressure descends onto the bars and due to the mouthpiece being a single break, it will create a squeeze on the bars – this squeeze on the bars is more than the squeeze created by a double jointed mouthpiece. The addition of the Petros to the Snaffle mouthpiece stops the horse from being able to hold onto the side of the bit. This can be especially useful in competition where the horse may try to grab the bit under stress, grabbing onto the bit will slow the horse’s response therefore losing precious seconds. The Sweet Iron material was chosen as a metal option as it oxidizes. Oxidization encourages salivation and acceptance of the mouthpiece. The single break, Snaffle Petros, is a broken mouthpiece and will take the shape of the horses mouth.
