Watch LessonSnaffle Lock Up Square Bar
The Lock Up snaffle removes the nut cracker action of the conventional snaffle, meaning it will bear less pressure on the horse’s bars. The Lock Up is therefore a softer option, than a conventional snaffle, although it still applies tongue and bar pressure when the reins are taken up. The Square Bar applies a greater pressure on the horses bars when the reins are taken up.
Functionality
The Snaffle Lock Up Square Bar creates a pressure point on the tongue due to the link concentrating pressure on a small surface area, this pressure point is less sharp than a general snaffle as we have designed our snaffle with an offset link, creating a less obvious pressure point. This pressure point on the tongue is softened due to the “Lock” effect. The Lock in the centre link allows the mouthpiece to retain the correct shape in the horses mouth. Pressure descends onto the bars and due to the mouthpiece being a semi-broken mouthpiece, it will hinder creating a squeeze on the bars – the extra piece of metal that has been added prevents the mouthpiece from folding backwards therefore creating little, to no squeeze on the bars. The Square Bar specialization increases pressure on the bars as when the reins are taken up the bar edges rotate on the bars. The Snaffle Lock Up Square Bar is available in Sweet Iron. The Sweet Iron material was chosen as a metal option as it oxidizes. Oxidization encourages salivation and acceptance of the mouthpiece. The semi-broken, Snaffle Lock Up Square Bar, has limited movement.
