Watch LessonSnaffle Comfy Lock Up Square Twist
The Snaffle Comfy Lock Up Square Twist is a curved mouthpiece which distributes pressure more evenly over tongue and bars and the lock up removes the nut cracker action of the conventional snaffle, meaning it will bear less pressure on the horse’s bars. The Square Twist will create more pressure points on the mouthpiece which will make it stronger than the Round Twist and Smooth.
Functionality
The Snaffle Comfy Lock Up Square Twist creates a pressure point on the tongue due to the link concentrating pressure on a small surface area, this pressure point is less sharp than a general snaffle as we have designed our snaffle with an offset link, creating a less obvious pressure point. This pressure point on the tongue is softened due to the “Lock” effect. The Lock in the centre link allows the mouthpiece to retain the correct shape in the horses mouth. Pressure descends onto the bars and due to the mouthpiece being a semi-broken mouthpiece, it will hinder creating a squeeze on the bars – the extra piece of metal that has been added prevents the mouthpiece from folding backwards therefore creating little, to no squeeze on the bars The Comfy curve was designed to spread pressure that is applied to the bars over a larger surface area, this decreases overall direct bar pressure. The square twist is a stronger specialization than the round twist as the spines are a smaller, sharper surface area. This specialization does apply a great amount of pressure on the tongue and bars as each curve creates an individual pressure point where it lands.
The Sweet Iron material was chosen as a metal option as it oxidizes. Oxidization encourages salivation and acceptance of the mouthpiece. The Snaffle Lock Up Square Twist, is a semi-broken mouthpiece and will take the shape of the horses mouth and has limited movement.
