Watch LessonPorted Pivot
The best of the Happy Tongue and the Ported Barrel. The Pivot Ported allows for independent lateral aids while maintaining the profile of the mouthpiece in the mouth. The Pivot Ported will take pressure off the tongue however, the contact is more stable due to less movement in the mouthpiece.
It is well suited to tongue sensitive horses that have difficulty flexing and do not put enough weight in the reins.
Functionality
The Ported Pivot combines the best functions of the Happy Tongue and the Ported Barrel. The Ported Pivot allows for a similar tongue relief to the Happy Tongue, spreading pressure onto the bars. The bar pressure is softened due to the curved nature of the mouthpiece. The mouthpiece is jointed in the center this allows for independent lateral aids like the Ported Barrel. The mouthpiece is a semi-broken mouthpiece and will hinder creating a squeeze on the bars – the joint hinders the mouthpiece to fold backwards therefore creating little, to no squeeze on the bars.
The Ported Pivot is available in Sweet Iron. The Sweet Iron material was chosen as a metal option as it oxidizes. Oxidization encourages salivation and acceptance of the mouthpiece. The semi-broken, Ported Pivot, has limited movement. The available ports have been scaled according to each width. This ensures accurate fitting over the bars and eliminates the rocking movement which occurs when the port is too wide.
