Watch LessonMcHardy Link
A horse shaking its head when bit pressure is applied or trying to put its tongue over the bit are classic signs the horse has a sensitive tongue. With this in mind the McHardy Link was created, it has a medium port creating space for the tongue, relieving pressure. The link in the middle increases bar pressure and as a result extends the head, helping to encourage the horse to take the contact. The McHardy Link creates very little pressure on the tongue.
Functionality
The McHardy Link offers some tongue relief due to the medium sized port. The center component is a smooth link that applies no pressure to the tongue. Pressure descends onto the bars and due to the mouthpiece being a double break, it will create a squeeze on the bars – however this squeeze on the bars is less than the squeeze created by a single jointed mouthpiece. The McHardy Link is available in Sweet Iron. The Sweet Iron material was chosen as a metal option as it oxidizes. Oxidization encourages salivation and acceptance of the mouthpiece. The double break, McHardy Link, is a flexible mouthpiece and will take the shape of the horses mouth.
