The leather mouthpiece is flexible making it softer than the conventional steel Mullen. The leather distributes the pressure evenly over the contour of the horse’s mouth. Leather is sometimes better accepted by the horse as it is a natural material.
Care needs to be taken to ensure the bit is correctly looked after and the leather does not dry out and become cracked. As with all our steel components, the cable and cheek piece will be covered by our lifetime guarantee.
Bomber recommends this for a limited number of horses with a sensitive fussy mouth.

Functionality
The Leather Mullen spreads pressure throughout the whole mouth, therefore pressure is spread over a large surface area and will not create direct pressure points. Bar pressure is further softened due to the soft textured Leather material. The Leather Material was chosen as a non-metal option as sometimes horses prefer non-metal as it is less foreign to their mouths than metal.
There is a metal cable run through the mouthpiece to ensure the mouthpiece cannot be bitten in half. The Leather Material also offers great flexibility, over time this mouthpiece will start to take the shape of the horses mouth. Attention should be focused on care of material, as it can dry out and become cracked – a way to avoid this is to ensure the mouthpiece is cleaned after use and wiped regularly with a cloth dipped in vegetable oil. When mouthpiece is worn by a horse, ensure stitching is facing outwards.
