Functionality
The Gavin Chaplin is generally combined with the Pelham cheekpiece for Polo. It is used with horses that have developed a habit of putting their tongue over the bit, so much so that they will keep doing it with a ported mouthpiece. The Gavin Chaplin can help to break this habit by taking pressure off the tongue and stopping the horse from being able to put their tongue over the bit.
