Watch LessonFrench Link Square Twist
The French Link is useful for horses that dislike the ‘nutcracker’ effect. The French Link figure 8 shaped lozenge rests vertically on the horse’s tongue applying harsh pressure but reduces the direct pressure on the outside of the bars of the mouth. This bit is stronger than the Control Plate and the Elliptical.
The Square Twist will create more pressure points on the mouthpiece which will make it stronger than the Round Twist and Smooth.
Functionality
The French Link Square Twist creates a pressure point on the tongue due to the center component concentrating pressure on a small surface area. Pressure descends onto the bars and due to the mouthpiece being a double break, it will create a squeeze on the bars – however this squeeze on the bars is less than the squeeze created by a single jointed mouthpiece. The square twist is a stronger specialization than the round twist as the spines are sharper. This specialisation does applies a great amount of pressure on the tongue and bars as each curve does create an individual pressure point where it lands. The French Link Square Twist is available in Sweet Iron. The Sweet Iron material was chosen as a metal option as it oxidizes. Oxidization encourages salivation and acceptance of the mouthpiece. The double break, French Link Square Twist, is a broken mouthpiece and will take the shape of the horses mouth.
