Watch LessonColin Miles
The Colin Miles is a great schooling bit with a wide centre piece creating greater tongue pressure and reducing bar pressure. The rings give the horse something to play with and help keep the horses attention on the bit. This particular joint exerts more pressure than the Control Plate or Elliptical.
Recommended schooling bit, the link is wider than the Buster Roller increasing tongue pressure and lessening bar pressure, but not to underestimate that this is a strong mouth piece.
Functionality
The Colin Miles creates pressure across the tongue due to the individual rotating rings as the center component concentrating pressure on a small surface area. Pressure descends onto the bars and due to the mouthpiece being a double break, it will create a squeeze on the bars – however this squeeze on the bars is less than the squeeze created by a single jointed mouthpiece. The Colin Miles is available in Sweet Iron and Titanium. The Sweet Iron material was chosen as a metal option as it oxidizes. Oxidization encourages salivation and acceptance of the mouthpiece. The Titanium material was designed as an alternative metal option to sweet iron, this metal was specifically chosen due to its hypoallergenic nature. The double break, Colin Miles, is a broken mouthpiece and will take the shape of the horses mouth.
