About Boyd
Fascinated by horses from the age of six, six times World Champion Boyd Exell’s path to international sporting greatness began when a school teacher in his native Australia introduced him to a carriage driving friend. His passion was cemented when he went on to win the Australian Pairs Championship at the age of 16. Moving to the UK to develop this early talent, Boyd soon took the world of carriage driving by storm, competing for Australia as well as training the British driving team. Among his achievements, he has been crowned four-in-hand world champion six times, as well as winning the FEI World Cup Driving Championship nine times. Boyd’s competitive spirit has shaped the sportsman he has become today. Celebrated with a string of accolades including Reem Acra Best Athlete and Ariat International Athlete of the Year awards, Boyd has also been honoured with the Order of Australia Medal in recognition of his services to equestrian sport, in particular four-in-hand carriage driving.
About Boyd Exell Range
The BE Driving cheekpiece have been designed with quality in mind. The cheekpiece are 6mm thickness which gives a good feel to them as well as allowing for the intricate design of the slots without making the bits too heavy.
Much time and thought has gone into the design of the these cheekpieces so that they are attractive as well as optimally functional.
The range has been divided into 2 categories, namely; the Starter Range and the Next Level Range.
Boyd Exell Cheekpieces
All BE cheekpieces are available in pony and standard sizes. With 2 or 3 slots and either fixed or rotating shanks.
The BE Liverpool FX applies both poll pressure and leverage to the mouthpiece. The lower the rein is attached the stronger the leverage and poll pressure will be. Cheek pressure provides additional emphasis to the lateral aids.
The cheekpiece is fixed and not able to rotate.
NEED TO ADD
The BE Liverpool Swinging Purchase FX removes the poll pressure by allowing the bridle attachment to move. This can increase the pressure through the curb and some leverage will still be applied to the mouthpiece. Cheek pressure provides additional emphasis to the lateral aids.
The Liverpool BE Military FX cheekpiece has the shank set slightly further back, this stops the horse from being able to grab the shank. It will also reduce the amount of pressure created by the shank as there is less distance for it to travel.
The cheekpiece is fixed and not able to rotate.
The Swales BE FX removes poll pressure, concentrating the pressure more on the curb chain and using more leverage. Especially good for horses that get to low in front. The cheekpiece does provide some cheek pressure.
The Swales allows for leverage to be applied to the mouthpiece without any poll pressure being applied.
Materials
Bombers only uses the very best Stainless Steel. Brass is used in some products. Most of our mouthpieces are made from blue sweet iron, because it:
- oxidises easily
- encourages salivation
- helps bit acceptance
- is warm and sweet
100% natural leather mullen shape will incur strong tongue and some bar pressure. Suitable for horses that object to metal. Wipe the leather after every use with a clean, dry cloth and apply a leather conditioner regularly.
- Avoid soaking the leather in water or soap.
- Avoid using any cleaning products not designed for leather.
- Avoid storing leather bits in direct sunlight.
Bomber’s revolutionary Cable bits
- Removes the centre links, creating a smooth more comfortable mouthpiece
- Offers a rigidity limiting the nutcracker effect and has spring back
- The cable allows for some lateral independence between each rein
The cable tubing is manufactured from clear virgin flexible PVC compound. It is heavy metal free meaning non- toxic and the pigment is FDA approved.
Patent Number : 2015/07341
